As some of you might know, Hustle Muscle has been at the Northtown Diesel Shops over the last week undergoing routine maintenance and inspections.  Unfortunately during the inspections it was found the Hustle Muscle has incurred a catastrophic engine failure, a broken crankshaft in two different locations.

The Hustle Muscle committee is looking into various options for Hustle Muscle and we will report those options as well as any board action back to the membership in the near future.

MIDWEST RAIL CAR REPAIR FACILITY TOUR

We have a NEW TOUR added to the convention agenda and a GREAT opportunity for those of you who may be arriving into Sioux Falls on Friday, September 15. MIDWEST RAIL CAR REPAIR has agreed to open its doors to the GNRHS for a tour of their facility.

Begun in 1954, Midwest Rail Car, Inc. has grown into a regional rail car repair leader. Their capabilities allow companies to bring a car for cleaning, qualification, interior lining, exterior paint, mechanical repair, inspection and testing. They offer Tank Car Repair, Tank Car Requalification, BOV and Safety Valve Reconditioning, Tank/Hopper & PD Car Cleaning, Interior Coating, Exterior Paint, Wreck Repairs and Maintenance & Repair Programs for their customers.

This Tour will load at the hotel at approximately 1:30 pm and return to the hotel at approximately 4:30 pm. Cost for the tour is $25. Please register SOON as space is limited to 56 persons.

The registration form in the June GOAT will reflect the addition of this tour. If you are registering in advance of receiving the June GOAT, please include a note on your registration form that you wish to be included in this tour and add your $25 payment for the tour to your convention total. You can also download the updated registration form from the website.

The online registration has been updated with this tour. If you want to add this tour to your existing reservation please use the convention registration form in the online store, enter the names of the participants and select the tour for them. Choose “Add-on” for the Registration Fee in order to not be charged the fee again. The tour will then be added by the National Conventions Officer to your existing registration.

As we enter a New Year, I hope that everyone has had a very joyous Holiday Season and an exciting New Year. As I have in the past, I would like to take time in this letter to ask the members to look at volunteering for the Society. Without volunteers and people who are interested in putting some of their spare time toward the Society, we would not be able to provide the services and events that all the members enjoy and have come to expect.

This year the Board of Directors will have three positions up for election. If you are interested in effecting how our Society operates and would like to have influence on future goals of the Society or if you believe that the Society should be going in a different direction, this is the time to consider running for a position on the Board. The Board will be establishing the election committee soon and will be soliciting candidates to run for office. If you have time and interest, please consider running for this office.

Would you like to work with our extensive archive collections cataloging and maintaining them for research? We have a position for you. The Jackson Street Roundhouse and the PNRA West Archives are always in need of members who can give time to work on cataloging our collections. Read more
