GN Days at Skykomish – September 9

This year’s informal event, featuring Great Northern Railway history, will be Saturday, September 9 in the Maloney Store building in Skykomish, WA. Here is the schedule:

8:00am: Meet and greet, drinks at Sky River Coffee, set up display tables with GN related materials.

9:30am: Program begins. Two presentations and lots of time to talk.

Noon: Lunch – arrangements for sandwiches can be made – delivered to the store at noon or bring your own

1:00 pm: Railfan Meet Up at the Depot. This informal event will run from 1-4 in the Freight Room and on the deck. Refreshments will be served. Free rides on the GN&CR available.

5:00 – 8:00 pm: Maloney Store Grand Opening event: Light on the Rails – Celebrating All Things Trains and Railroad. Art show sponsored by Sky Artworks and the Skykomish Historical Society.

GNRHS Online Meet-Up – September 28
Our next ZOOM meeting, hosted by John Robert Coy and Jacob Wright will be at 8:00 PM Central on September 28 (6 Pacific, 7 Mountain, and 9 Eastern time). The meeting window will be “open” for social chat at 7:30 PM Central time to give members the opportunity to chat with one another.

The presenter will be Lee Marsh, who will give a short clinic he calls “How I used GNRHS resources to support my railroad modeling in both space and time”. The balance of the meeting will be free form discussion among the participants.

The St Cloud convention July 22-26 will focus on the history of the Great Northern in St Cloud and Waite Park, Minnesota, with tours and presentations. Many thanks to convention co-chairs Francina and Tom Carr, along with Bob Kelly, Mary McGlothlin, Jim Betz, Jeff Otto, the CPHA crew and so many others that helped make the joint GNRHS/CPHA convention in Nelson BC a success. Over 150 attendees enjoyed beautiful weather and a full program of clinics, tours, model displays and fellowship.
